ASSESSMENT OF COSTS - REASONS
ASSESSMENT OFFICER
[1] On June 30, 2000, the Federal Court of Appeal dismissed the application for judicial review of a decision of the Umpire and awarded costs. The Respondent filed a bill of costs and requested an assessment in writing without personal appearance. Directions were issued to both parties setting a timetable for serving and filing of materials, including written submissions. The Applicant, who represented himself throughout, did not file any submissions in response.
[2] In absence of a response from the Applicant, I examined the items claimed in the bill of costs to ensure that they were within the parameters of the Federal Court Rules and Tariff B. I am satisfied that the supporting materials justify the Respondent's Bill of Costs and I allow it as presented at $935.19.
